Police arrest man after stolen SUV spotted in northern suburbs, South Australia

A driver has been arrested following a pursuit by PolAir this afternoon which commenced at Brahma Lodge.

Just before 5pm on Thursday 23 September, a stolen Toyota RAV4 SUV with unassigned plates was spotted by patrols in the car park of a hotel on the corner of Main North Road and Frost Road. The SUV drove off onto Clayson Road at Salisbury East before driving through a number of back streets in the northern suburbs. Patrols did not pursue the SUV but kept observations until PolAir commenced following it on Main North Road.

The SUV then entered a unit complex on Smith Road, Salisbury East before driving through a fence and clipping a police vehicle. It then continued through the northern and western suburbs at times running red lights and travelling on the incorrect side of the road.

The SUV was spiked at the intersection of Tapleys Hill and Henley Beach Road and continued to make its way to the Findon Shopping Centre where the driver dumped the SUV and ran off. He was found a short time later hiding behind bins at the rear loading dock.

A 34-year-old from Brahma Lodge man has been charged with aggravated acts to endanger life, illegal use and a number of traffic offences. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The Toyota was stolen overnight on Saturday 18 September from a Mawson Lakes address.

Anyone who has dash-cam vision of the white 2021 Toyota RAV4 is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
