Police arrest man in CBD

Police have made an arrest in the CBD this morning following reports a man was seen with a firearm.

Reports were received that a man was in the vicinity of Bourke and Swanston streets just after 11am.

Police, including Critical Incident Response Team officers, responded in under two minutes.

The man was located in the foyer of a building on Bourke Street and arrested without incident.

The firearm was retrieved, and a search of the building was executed as a precaution.

Investigators have determined that no shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident.

The 23-year-old North Melbourne man is currently in custody being interviewed.

There is no ongoing threat to the community and the incident is not believed to be terrorism related.
