Police arrest man over O’Sullivan Beach crash and drink driving, South Australia

A man has been arrested over numerous traffic offences after he allegedly rammed a car and was caught drink driving at O’Sullivan beach last night.

Just before 10pm on Monday 5 October, police traffic patrols were undertaking road policing duties as part of Operation Safe Long Weekend, when they saw a Jeep Cherokee 4wd driving erratically on Borraga Street at O’Sullivan Beach.

As a result, the patrol attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused and it was involved in a very brief pursuit, before the Jeep stopped in Selway Terrace.

As the patrol was speaking with the male driver, the patrol became aware of a report of a Jeep that earlier had allegedly twice rammed a van that was parked on the front lawn of a home on Selway Terrace, and then driven off. As a result the damaged van was pushed into a house causing damage to a wall.

The driver of the Jeep, a 37-year-old man from O’Sullivan Beach was charged with dangerous driving to cause a pursuit, drink driving after he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.177, property damage and breach of bail.

Police bail was refused and the man will appear before the Christies Beach Magistrates Court later today.

The arrested man’s Jeep has been impounded for 28 days and he was issued with a 12 month instant loss of licence .

The estimated cost of repair to the house is about $20,000 and $2,000 damage caused to the van.

There were no injuries in the incident.
