Police arrest man over serious assault at Blacktown

A man has been arrested after an employee was allegedly assaulted at a Blacktown supermarket yesterday.

Just before 6:30pm (Sunday 18 February 2024), a man entered the self-service area at a supermarket on Patrick Street and was stopped by an employee after reportedly attempting to leave the store without paying for items.

The man allegedly pushed the employee, a 64-year-old man, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the floor before leaving store. He was last seen boarding a train at Schofields Railway Station.

The injured employee was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital where his condition deteriorated, and he remains in a critical condition.

Officers attached to Blacktown Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries and a public appeal, investigators arrested a 25-year-old man at a Schofields home about 1.30pm today (Monday 19 February 2024). He will be taken to Blacktown Police Station.
