Police arrest man over stolen car, South Australia

A man will face court after stealing a car from a Prospect home and crashing at Hectorville this morning.

About 12.50am on Wednesday 16 March, the occupants of a Pulsford Road home awoke to noises inside and when they got up to investigate, they saw someone driving off in their black BMW sedan that was parked in the driveway. Other items such as phones, a computer and camera had also been stolen.

Police patrols were in the area when alerted to the incident and spotted the stolen car

on Prospect Road before disappearing into back streets.

The stolen car was not pursued but was tracked by PolAir through Blair Athol and Enfield before heading east on Regency and Muller Roads.

PolAir kept tracking the BMW until it collided with a fence at the corner of Montacute and Moorlands Roads at Hectorville. The driver immediately ran from the car and starting jumping fences and onto roofs as patrols quickly set up cordons.

The driver was located with the assistance of PD Rusty and his handler in the yard of a home in Binnswood Street.

Property stolen from the break-in was recovered from the vehicle.

A 28-year-old man from Croydon Park was arrested and is expected to be charged with numerous offences including theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated serious criminal trespass, driving in a manner dangerous to the public and driving while disqualified.
