Police have arrested a man and a woman following a serious assault and pursuit which started in the western suburbs late this afternoon.
Just after 5pm on Tuesday 12 May, police were called to Greenacres after reports of a hire car – Chrysler 300C sedan having been stolen. A short time later, patrols were directed to Burt Avenue at Hilton after the car was tracked to that location by the owner.
Just before 6pm, patrols arrived in Burt Avenue, locating the stolen car with three occupants. Information was received at this time that a person in the stolen car had been stabbed. The Chrysler then drove off, crashing into an unmarked police vehicle before driving off along Sir Donald Bradman Drive towards the city.
Patrols pursued the car into the CBD where it drove along Wakefield Street and through the eastern suburbs along Glen Osmond Road. It then entered the South Eastern Freeway where PolAir took over the pursuit. The driver performed a u-turn prior to the Heysen Tunnels and travelling back towards the CBD with the car being spiked near the Tollgate before it turned onto Cross Road.
PolAir continued to follow the Chrysler along Unley Road, King William Street and then into Angas Street where it stopped outside Police Headquarters just before 6.30pm. The 38-year-old woman driving was arrested along with her 36-year-old male passenger. Another woman in the car was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a stab wound to her abdomen.
Eastern District CIB are currently investigating and the pair are expected to be charged later.
The incident is not a random attack with all parties known to each other.
