Police arrest six after fight and crash in city, South Australia

Police have arrested three youths and three men following an affray and a hit-run crash in the CBD this afternoon.

At around 3.45pm on Thursday 24 December, patrols were called to the intersection of Hutt Street and Wakefield Street, following reports of a crash involving several cars.

Witnesses reported a black Toyota utility had run a red light before causing a multi-car crash. The driver and passenger fled the scene but were arrested a short time later on Flinders Street.

Investigations by police revealed the driver and passenger had stopped at a house on Halifax Street around 3.30pm where they allegedly armed themselves with a knife and a pruning saw and threatened the three occupants. A fight then ensued between the five before another man arrived in a Ford sedan, parking in front of the Toyota utility.

The driver and passenger then fled in the utility, crashing into the Ford as they drove off. The driver, a 17-year-old from Grange and his passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Prospect, were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and are expected to be charged with aggravated affray.

The three occupants of the house, a 17-year-old boy, a 20-year-old man and a 45-year-old man, along with the driver of the Ford, a 56-year-old man, all from Adelaide, have been charged with aggravated affray. A decision regarding bail is yet to be made and all parties are known to each other.

Police recovered a knife and pruning saw from the utility.

The intersection is now clear and investigations are continuing in relation to the crash with further traffic related charges expected.
