Police arrest three after armed robberies in Clayton and Burwood

Police have arrested three people in relation to armed robberies in the Clayton and Burwood areas last night.

The first incident took place on Stockdale Avenue, Clayton about 7pm. It is understood a 25-year-old Clayton man was walking when three males, perceived as African in appearance, approached him and struck him with an object.

They made demands for various items including his bag and phone which the victim handed over before the offenders fled the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

It is believed the same group of offenders were then involved in a further two robberies in Uganda Street, Burwood.

About 7.35pm it is understood six offenders, all perceived to be African in appearance, approached two victims, aged 20 and 21 from Burwood, and assaulted them before stealing various items including phones, computers and wallets.

They were not physically injured during the incident.

Approximately ten minutes later it is believed three of the same group assaulted a 32-year-old Burwood man with an object, again stealing items and fleeing the scene on foot.

He sustained minor injuries and was assessed by emergency services at the scene.

Police including Public Order Response Unit officers then responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in Merrick Street, Keysborough about 8.20pm and they located the group close by.

Three teens all aged 17-years-old were arrested after a short foot chase. They are currently in custody assisting police with enquiries and are expected to be charged with armed robbery related offences.

Investigators are still searching for three males in relation to the incidents.
