Police arrest two after burnout in stolen car, South Australia

A driver and passenger were arrested after dumping a stolen car in the northern suburbs overnight.

Just after midnight on Wednesday 29 December, an Eastern District patrol spotted a stolen black Nissan Skyline doing a burnout at the intersection of Stephen Terrace and Nottage Terrace, Gilberton. The patrol was unable to catch up to the vehicle, however, PolAir tracked the car from Magill Road as it travelled through the north eastern and northern suburbs.

Police attempted to spike the car’s tyres on Haydown Road, Elizabeth Grove, at 1.15am but were unsuccessful. A few minutes later the car was dumped in Hazel Road, Salisbury East. The driver and passenger ran from the car but were quickly located by Police Dog Stoic.

The alleged driver, a 33-year-old Elizabeth South man was arrested and charged with illegal use, misuse of a motor vehicle, drive disqualified and engage in police pursuit. He was also charged with aggravated extreme speed and police will allege he was travelling in excess of 200 km/h on Port Wakefield Road, Parafield Gardens.

His passenger, a 32-year-old Surrey Downs man, was arrested and charged with illegal use, going equipped to commit an offence and was wanted for a serious criminal trespass.

They were refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

The Nissan Skyline, which was reported stolen on Monday night from Holden Hill, was towed from the scene for forensic examination.
