Police arrest two after fleeing in stolen car, South Australia

Two men have been arrested after being spotted driving a stolen car and then followed by PolAir through the southern and western suburbs today.

Just before 11am on Monday 11 July, patrols spotted a stolen grey Holden sedan travelling on Reynell Road at Old Reynella.

The car was followed travelling north on South Road and onto the Expressway. It continued east on Ayliffes Road, north on Goodwood Road and then west onto Daws Road.

Police attempted to spike the tyres of the sedan near the South Road and Daws Road intersection at Clovelly Park, however it was unsuccessful and the car continued west on Daws Road.

Two vehicles being driven by members of the public were inadvertently spiked on Daws Road at Clovelly Park.

PolAir picked up the stolen vehicle and was tracked west on Oaklands Road and then south on Morphett Road. The car drove through a red light and was seen being driven on the wrong side of the road.

The car was followed onto Brighton Road through the back streets of Brighton to Jetty Road Glenelg and Tapleys Hill Road.

The car was eventually abandoned on Airport Road at Brooklyn Park. Police will allege the driver left the car and entered a home on Airport Road through an unlocked side door and left via the rear door where he jumped the back fence. No one at the home was confronted by the man.

The alleged driver was arrested without incident in the front yard of a home on Mellor Avenue at Lockleys. The 40-year-old man from Pooraka, was charged with illegal use, driving in a manner dangerous, failing to truly answer questions and breaching his bail. The man has been refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday 12 July).

The passenger, a 30-year-old man from Morphettville, was arrested on a parole board warrant.

Police searched the stolen car and located two axes, a large hunting knife, along with hammers and gloves.

Checks revealed the Holden sedan was stolen from a Christies Beach address on 7 July.
