Police arrest two at Hillcrest after crash, South Australia

Two people were arrested after a stolen car crashed into two other vehicles at Hillcrest this afternoon.

Just before 2.30pm on Thursday 6 January, a patrol spotted the black Toyota Prado on Oxford Street, Hillcrest with unassigned plates. The driver refused to stop for police. A few seconds later, the Prado crashed into a Mazda sedan and a Mazda station wagon at the intersection of Patricia Avenue and North East Road, Hillcrest.

A female driver of the Prado was immediately taken into custody but the passenger ran off. He was chased by members of the public, who held him at Forbes Street until police arrived.

The alleged driver of the stolen car, a 39-year-old Edwardstown woman, was injured in the crash and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Three people in the other vehicles sustained minor injuries in the collision and were taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The alleged driver and passenger, a 40-year-old Taperoo man, were arrested and charged with illegal use. The driver will further be charged with engage in police pursuit, cause injury by dangerous driving, drive disqualified, drive with unassigned plates, and drug driving.

They will both be refused police bail and appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow, Friday 7 January.

The Prado was reported stolen from Norwood on 17 December.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

Traffic was blocked on North East Road while emergency services attended the scene, but traffic has resumed.
