Police arrest woman after string of fraud

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a Greensborough woman following a sting of fraudulent scams where she contacted multiple victims by phone, claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office.

Detectives executed a warrant on her Grimshaw Street home yesterday where they located a large quantity of gift cards and receipts believed to be linked to multiple frauds.

The 40-year-old was released pending summons and is expected to be charged with obtaining property and financial advantage by deception and two counts of processing a prohibited weapon.

Detectives are hopeful that this result will cause significant disruption to these ongoing scams.

Police are urging people to be wary following reports of scammers impersonating

authorities including police and the Australian Tax Office to obtain money from

victims.

If you receive a phone call requesting personal information or payment from a person

representing themselves from a law enforcement or government agency, do not

respond to the request and hang up.

If you have lost money as a result of this type of scam, please report the matter to

your local police station.
