Police charge five people with 118 offences across several suburbs

Regional Investigations Unit detectives have arrested five people and charged them with 118 offences as part of their operation targeting high-harm offenders responsible for multiple cross-district offences including aggravated robbery, burglary, stealing, vehicle theft and driving offences.

It is alleged the teenagers, three boys and two girls were involved in 19 burglary type incidents between 8 and 10 July 2020 across the suburbs of Aubin Grove, Bayswater, Ellenbrook, Hamilton Hill, High Wycombe, Innaloo, Kalamunda, Midland, Mullaloo, Rivervale, West Swan and Yokine.

On the evening of Wednesday 8 July 2020, it is alleged the group stole a Silver Subaru wagon from Bayswater and a white Kia sedan from Mullaloo and used the Subaru in criminal activity.

It is further alleged around 6.30am on Thursday 9 July 2020, two of the group approached a woman in her 20s who was unlocking a business on Rowe Avenue in Rivervale when they grabbed her bag and violently ripped it from her, causing her to fall to the ground.

It is alleged the two offender got into a silver Subaru wagon and attempted to drive away when the victim jumped onto the bonnet holding onto a windscreen wiper in an attempt to stop them fleeing.

The Subaru travelled a short distance before the woman was thrown from the vehicle. The woman was conveyed by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of cuts and abrasions.

About 8am on Thursday 9 July 2020, police sighted the stolen Subaru in Maddington and as the vehicle continued on it collided a few minutes later with a civilian vehicle on Albany Highway in Gosnells. No-one was injured in the crash. The three occupants of the vehicle fled and were apprehended as short time later. Two other offenders were located in Cannington later that morning.

• A 16-year-old boy from Rockingham, a 13-year-old boy from Kelmscott and a 15-year-old boy from Medina are due to appear in the Perth Children’s Court today, 10 July 2020 on 114 charges.

• Two girls aged 16 and 15 from Morley will appear in the Perth Children’s Court on 20 July 2020 on four charges.
