Police charge four after high-speed pursuit

Mill Park Embona Unit detectives have charged two adults and two teenagers after a pursuit throughout the northern suburbs this week.

Officers allegedly spotted the group travelling at high speeds in Heidelberg West on Wednesday 6 September about 11pm.

Police activated lights and sirens while attempting to intercept the vehicle, however, the hired Mazda CX5 failed to stop.

With assistance from the Air Wing, police followed the car through Banyule, Darebin and Whittlesea, before it eventually came to a stop on Childs Road in Mill Park about 12.15am on 7 September.

The four male occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot, before being located and arrested nearby.

While searching the vehicle, officers located and seized a large knife.

It is believed the vehicle was also hired using fraudulent details.

An 18-year-old South Morang man has been charged with reckless conduct endanger life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, reckless driving, unlicenced driving, commit indictable offence whilst on bail and 2 x contravene bail conditions.

He has been remanded to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

An 18-year-old Preston man has been charged with obtain property by deception, theft of motor vehicle, commit indictable offence whilst on bail and 3 x contravene conduct condition of bail.

He has been remanded to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 13 October.

A 17-year-old Bundoora teenager has been charged with obtain property by deception, theft of motor vehicle and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He has been remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
