Police charge man after Albany assault

Albany Detectives have charged an 18-year-old male after an incident in Albany on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.

Around 11.25pm, a 28-year-old man was on Vancouver Street when it is alleged the charged person struck the victim to the head with a glass bottle causing him to fall to the ground. It is further alleged the victim was assaulted whilst on the ground and was asked for money.

It is further alleged the victim’s wallet was stolen and his mobile phone smashed.

The victim received significant injuries resulting in in the dislodgement of his tooth at the root, displacement of other teeth, laceration and grazing to his lips, significant bruising and swelling and bleeding to his face and three stiches to the crown of his head.

The 18-year-old man from Mount Barker has been charged with Aggravated Armed Robbery and on another matter, Possess Cannabis and Possess Drug Paraphernalia. He is due to appear before the Albany Magistrates Court today, 21 October 2021.
