Police charge man after CBD incident

Police have charged a man following an alleged firearm incident in Melbourne’s CBD yesterday.

The 23-year-old was arrested in the foyer of a building on Bourke Street just after 11am after reports were received he had a firearm.

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives executed a search warrant at a Villiers Street, North Melbourne residence about 7.15pm last night.

Detectives seized drugs, cash, ammunition and an imitation handgun.

The North Melbourne man has been charged with 17 drug and firearm offences including unlicensed possession of a firearm, using a firearm in a dangerous manner, reckless conduct endangering life and possessing cannabis.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

No one was injured during the incident.
