Police charge man after crash in Riverina

A man has been charged following a two-vehicle crash in the state’s Riverina region yesterday.

About 1.30pm (Wednesday 11 November 2020), police were called to Burley Griffin Way, Ariah Park, following reports a black Volvo B-double and a white Nissan Elgrand van collided.

Inquiries suggest the B-double collided with the rear of the van, forcing the van off the road, where it rolled.

The Nissan driver, a 45-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained spinal injuries. She was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Her two passengers, a 13-year-old girl and nine-year-old boy, sustained injuries and were also airlifted to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Investigators from the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and commenced inquiries.

The truck driver, a 26-year-old man, was uninjured. He was arrested and taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing, before being taken to Temora Police Station.

Following inquiries, he was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Temora Local Court on Wednesday 24 March 2021.

His licence has also been suspended.
