Police charge man after evade through Bendigo

Police have charged a man after he allegedly evaded police through the Greater Bendigo area yesterday.

The 19-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with 45 offences, including:

• reckless conduct endanger life

• reckless conduct endanger serious injury

• dangerous driving whilst pursued by police

• drive manner dangerous

• drive under influence of intoxicating liquor and drugs

• unlicenced driving

• possess methylamphetamine

• possess 1,4 butanediol

• recklessly cause injury

• theft of motor vehicle.

The charges follow an alleged incident in Bendigo where police spotted an allegedly stolen 2006 Holden Utility on Holdsworth Road about 1.30pm.

Officers followed the vehicle, where it was allegedly observed driving at an excessive speed through red lights.

With the assistance of Air Wing, police continued to follow the vehicle, before unsuccessfully attempting to intercept the car on Emmeline Drive in Maiden Gully.

Air Wing and officers on the ground continued to follow the vehicle, which was allegedly still driving erratically, through including Maiden Gully, Ironbark, Eaglehawk, North Bendigo, East Bendigo, Strathdale and Flora Hill.

A short time later, stop sticks were successfully deployed on Houlihan Street in Flora Hill, where the driver lost control and crashed into a signpost.

Officers swiftly arrested the sole occupant of the vehicle at the scene.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Bendigo on 16 October.

The 19-year-old man will appear at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on 24 November.
