Police charge man after impersonating a police officer in Strathfield

A man has been charged with allegedly photographing women after informing them he was a police officer involved in an investigation at various locations across Sydney.

About 11.40pm yesterday (Monday 23 March 2020), officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command attended a unit in Redmyre Road, Strathfield to execute a search warrant and arrested a 33-year-old man.

Police will allege the man approached females both in public and at residential locations where he produced a false identification purporting to be a police detective. He also informed the women he was conducting an investigation.

It is further alleged that on several occasions he requested the women allow him to photograph them. In one incident he asked a woman to produce her shoes, which he sniffed and returned to her.

During the search warrant police seized a number of items including a mobile phone allegedly depicting images of women’s feet.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with aggravated impersonate police officer (X3) and impersonate police officer (x2).

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 1 June 2020.
