Police charge man after investigation into drug supply syndicate in Prospect

A man will face court today charged with multiple drug supply offences as part of an ongoing investigation into criminal syndicates in Sydney.

In April this year, detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad under Strike Force Raptor commenced an investigation into drug supply syndicates operating out of Sydney’s west.

About 4pm yesterday (Thursday 11 June 2020), Strike Force Raptor Highway Patrol stopped a grey Toyota Camry on Blacktown Road, Prospect and spoke with the driver, a 35-year-old man.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, where officers seized 80 small resealable bags of cocaine concealed in the driver’s side door and beneath the gear stick.

Methylamphetamine and cash were also seized.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended after the driver complained of chest pains. He was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition under police guard.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the man’s home on Aldgate Street, Prospect, where they located a large safe within a children’s bedroom. Inside the safe was a commercial quantity of cocaine along with more than $50,000 in cash.

As the search of the property continued, police discovered and seized cannabis, diazepam, 33 large boxes of fireworks, cash as well as counterfeit currency and various items consistent with drug supply.

About 10pm, the 35-year-old man was released from hospital.

He was taken to Blacktown Police Station and charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), supply prohibited drug, two counts of possess prohibited drug, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime (more than $5000), recklessly deal with proceeds of crime (less than $5000) and handle explosive/precursor without authorising licence.

Police will allege the man supplied prohibited drugs throughout the Sydney metropolitan area.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local court today (Friday 12 June 2020).
