Police charge man after Moonee Ponds incident

Police have charged a man after several people were injured in Moonee Ponds on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the vicinity of Puckle Street about 1.15pm after reports of a number of assaults.

Police quickly attended and a 36-year-old Broadmeadows man was arrested near the Moonee Ponds Railway Station.

The four people, two males and two females ranging in age from 30s to 80s, were taken to hospital for treatment to what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

He has been charged with 29 offences including intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury, common law assault, assault with a weapon, armed robbery and other offences.

He is being held in custody and will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

At this stage the incident appears to have been random in nature and not terror related.
