Police charge man after motorcycle stolen at Oxley

A man has been charged with traffic offences after an alleged stealing in the State’s north-west yesterday.

About 4.45am yesterday (Wednesday 11 October 2023), officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a home in Kootingal, after reports of a motorcycle had been stolen from the location.

Police commenced an investigation into the incident under Operation Regional Mongoose.

Following extensive inquiries, officers located the motorcycle allegedly at a property on Drummond Road, Oxley Vale, about 10.15pm the same night.

At the location, officers arrested a 23-year-old man who was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, never licensed person drive vehicle on road – prior offence, and motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet.

An outstanding warrant for the offence of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm was executed.

He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court today (Thursday 12 October 2023).

Police will allege in court that the man was armed with a firearm when he approached two people, who were in a vehicle outside a home on Thompson Crescent, Tamworth, on Sunday 13 August 2023.

Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominately by young offenders. Inquiries are continuing.
