A man has been charged following two police pursuits in the state’s northwest this week.
About 11.15am on Wednesday (10 June 2026), officers attached to Western Region Operations Support Group attempted to stop a black Ford sedan on Manilla Road, Oxley Vale, after it was observed driving dangerously and the driver allegedly had a balaclava over their head.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the vehicle collided with a fence on Marius Street, Tamworth, and a 38-year-old woman was arrested.
Another occupant of the vehicle left the scene on foot.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle and woman, where they allegedly seized a vial of liquid, a black machete and a mobile phone.
Following investigations, a black glove and black balaclava were found nearby.
The 38-year-old woman was taken to Tamworth Police Station, before being released pending further investigations.
About 3.20pm yesterday (Thursday 11 June 2026), officers attached to Oxley Police District attempted to stop a silver utility on Holland Street, South Tamworth, after it was observed driving dangerously and the driver allegedly had a balaclava over their head.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned in a park near Kurrawan Street, Tamworth, with the occupants of the vehicle leaving on foot.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 27-year-old man nearby.
Police allege during the pursuit the vehicle hit several fences and drove into the path of oncoming cars.
The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, destroy or damage property greater than $15000, and not give particulars to owner of damaged property.
Police allege the 27-year-old was involved in a pursuit the day before (Wednesday 10 June 2026).
He was also charged by virtue of an outstanding warrant for domestic violence related offences.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 Court today (Friday 12 June 2026).
