Police charge man after north western suburbs crime spree

A man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a number of aggravated burglaries, theft from cars and multiple deceptions in the north western suburbs of Melbourne.

It is alleged the man committed two aggravated burglaries in Grace Street and Epsom Street, Laverton.

It is also alleged the man stole credit cards and personal items from parked cars in the Altona, Altona North, Kingsville, Point Cook, Wyndham Vale, Tarneit, St Albans, Keilor, Sunshine, Sunshine North and Reservoir areas before allegedly using stolen credit cards to purchase items from convenience stores in these areas.

The offending allegedly occurred between 17 August and 26 September and in all incidents, it is alleged the man gained entry to the houses and cars via unlocked doors.

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives intercepted the man in a car in St Albans on 1 October and located drugs and allegedly stolen property in the vehicle.

Investigators executed two search warrants at addresses in St Albans and Laverton and recovered alleged stolen property including a handbag, mobile phones, lap-top computers and credit cards.

A 23-year-old Laverton man was charged with 38 charges including multiple counts of aggravated burglary, theft, theft from motor vehicle and numerous deceptions.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 16 October.
