Police charge man after pursuit in stolen car in Southern Highlands

A man will face court today charged with multiple offences following a police pursuit in the Southern Highlands earlier today.

About 5.20am (Wednesday 21 October 2020), a man attended a service station on the Hume Highway at Marulan and allegedly stole a number of items, before stealing a Ford Falcon and fleeing.

A short time later, the driver of the stolen Ford allegedly failed to pay for petrol at a second service station in Sutton Forest.

Police were notified and a pursuit was initiated after the Ford was located on the Hume Highway at Welby a short time later.

The driver exited the highway at Church Avenue, Colo Vale, and crashed into a guard rail on the side of a roundabout, before attempting to flee the vehicle on foot.

A search of the man and his backpack revealed jewellery, electronic devices and tools believed to be stolen.

The driver, a 37-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Southern Highlands Police Station, where he was charged with goods suspected stolen in custody of other, two counts of police pursuit, dishonestly obtain property by deception, shoplifting, exceed speed limit (over 45km/h) and take and drive conveyance without consent of owner.

He was refused bail to appear in Moss Vale Local Court today (Wednesday 21 October 2020).
