Police charge man after St Kilda aggravated burglary

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an aggravated burglary in St Kilda this morning.

Investigators believe the man allegedly gained entry to a residence on Esplanade Street, about 8.40am.

It is alleged a man was home at the time, and allegedly confronted the man after hearing a noise.

It is believed the man then left the residence empty handed, before he was allegedly spotted loitering nearby by neighbours.

While attempting to avoid officers, it is believed the man jumped from a first-floor balcony, before allegedly assaulting a police officer.

He was then swiftly arrested by officers at the scene.

A 35-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with aggravated burglary, two counts of resist emergency services worker, assault emergency services worker and commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He has been remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 24 October.
