Police charge man after Sunshine North fatal assault

Homicide Squad detectives have today charged a man following the fatal assault of a man in Sunshine North on 30 September.

Emergency services were called to reports of an altercation between two men on Albert Street around 2.30pm.

A 76-year-old Sunshine North man was conveyed to hospital to be treated for critical injuries, where he later died on Sunday, 15 October.

A 47-year-old man of no fixed place of address was arrested at the scene and charged with numerous assault related charges.

Those charges have today been upgraded to murder.

The man remains remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 January, 2024.

Police believe the parties involved were known to each other.
