A man has been charged after allegedly setting fire to a unit in the state’s Central West region.
About 11.30pm Saturday 20 June 2026, emergency services were called to a unit complex on Lee Street, Cowra, following reports of a fire.
Officers from Chifley Police District attended and found a unit within the complex well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.
The unit was destroyed with neighbouring units suffering minor damage.
Residents of the unit complex self-evacuated and there were no reports of any injuries.
A crime scene was established for examination by specialist officers.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 40-year-old man at the scene.
He was taken to Cowra Police Station and charged with damage property by fire more than $15000 (domestic violence) and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
The man was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 4 on Sunday 21 June 2026.
