Police charge man for drink driving in Leppington

A man will face court today after driving whilst allegedly being almost four times over the legal blood alcohol limit and assaulting a police officer in Sydney’s south-west.

The NSW Police Force commenced the Operation Christmas/New Year 2023, starting at 12.01am on Friday (22 December 2023) to target high-risk driver behaviour and ensure road safety during the end of year celebration season.

As part of the ongoing operation , officers attached to Liverpool Highway Patrol were called to a fast food restaurant in Edmonson Park about 4.50pm yesterday (22 December 2023), following reports of the driver of a utility allegedly being intoxicated whilst using the drive-thru.

Police stopped a white utility on Rickard Road, Leppington, and spoke with the driver, aged 43.

He underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result. He was also subject to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive reading.

The man resisted arrest before he was taken to Liverpool Police Station and underwent a secondary breath analysis which allegedly returned a reading of 0.198.

Police will allege in court the man failed to comply with a secondary oral fluid test and threw a swab at an officer, striking their forearm.

The man was charged with drive with high range prescribed concentration of alcohol, refuse or fail to provide oral fluid sample, assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and two counts of hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
