Police charge man over $720k fraud – Punchbowl

Detectives have charged a man over allegedly defrauding a bank as part of an investigation in Sydney’s south-west.

In December 2023, detectives from Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation into an online fraud which is alleged to have defrauded a bank of $720,000.

It will be alleged in Court that between Wednesday 13 December and Saturday 16 December 2023, a man conducted 52 online transactions, which netted him $720,000 – to which he was not entitled.

As part of the investigation, about 9.45am on Thursday 28 December 2023, detectives executed a search warrant at a house on Dudley Street, Punchbowl.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the house and taken to Campsie Police Station.

The man was charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception and possess prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail at Bankstown Local Court on Monday 6 February 2024.
