Police charge man over armed robbery in Eastwood

A man has been charged after allegedly stealing baby formula and threatening a supermarket employee in Sydney’s north west last month.

Shortly before 3pm (Tuesday 23 June 2020), two men entered a supermarket on Rowe Street, Eastwood, before one of the men allegedly attempted to steal several tins of baby formula.

When the man was stopped for a bag search by a 37-year-old employee, it’s alleged he produced a knife and threatened the employee before fleeing the store.

Detectives attached to Ryde Police Area command attended the scene and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries and a public appeal, a 39-year-old man was arrested at a facility at Silverwater about 9am today (Wednesday 8 July 2020).

He was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Burwood Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 19 August 2020.
