A man has been charged over an alleged break-in and assault at a home in the state’s Murrumbidgee region earlier this week.
About 5am on Saturday (25 December 2021), a 26-year-old man requested people leave his home on Cassia Road, Leeton. The man’s father attended the property and again asked them to leave; to which they complied.
About 11am Saturday (25 December 2021), a 26-year-old man was woken by three males – one carrying a baseball bat – inside his home on Cassia Road, Leeton. It will be alleged he was hit several times with the bat.
It will be further alleged two of the males held the man in place while the third man continued to assault him.
The man escaped to a friend’s house, where they contacted NSW Ambulance paramedics. Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Acacia Avenue, Leeton, about 8.30am on Tuesday (28 December 2021), and arrested a 22-year-old man.
During the search, police seized cannabis and methylamphetamine, an electronic stun device, as well as clothing and a vehicle.
The man was taken to Leeton Police Station where he was charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – wound, and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – inflict actual bodily harm.
The Leeton man was refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 12 January 2022.
