Police charge man over false report – Tempe

Detectives have charged a man after he allegedly made false police reports leading to a significant police operation in Tempe.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were called to a home on Gannon Street, about 8.45am Saturday 20 January 2024, following reports multiple people had been shot.

A perimeter was established with nearby streets closed as a precaution while police spoke with a 72-year-old woman who lived in the home.

A short time later, a 52-year-old man arrived at the scene.

The man allegedly ignored a police direction and a taser was deployed to affect his arrest.

He was checked at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital for assessment.

The home was subsequently searched with no firearms found. Police confirmed that no shots were fired and there were no injuries.

After the man was discharged from the hospital today (Wednesday 24 January 2024), he was taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with make false accusation with intent to investigate and give false information person or property in danger.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Newtown Local Court on Monday 11 March 2024.
