Police Charge Man Over Vehicle Theft, Arson At Forbes

A man has been charged after a car was allegedly stolen and set on fire in the state’s Central West last week.

On Saturday 12 September 2026, officers attached to Central West Police District commenced an investigation after a car was allegedly stolen from a property on Sam Street, Forbes.

Police were told a white Skoda hatchback was allegedly taken from the property between 5pm on Friday 11 September and 4pm on Saturday 12 September 2026.

About 11.30pm the same day (Saturday 12 September 2026), emergency services were called to Oxley Place, Orange, following reports of a car fire.

Officers attended and found the white Skoda hatchback well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the hatchback was destroyed.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Following extensive inquiries, about 4pm yesterday (Wednesday 16 September 2026), officers executed a search warrant at a property on Albert Street, Parkes, and arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Parkes Police Station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 4 today (Thursday 17 September 2026).
