Police charge man with 40 property offences in Eastern Suburbs

A man has been charged with 40 offences following an investigation into a series of thefts and frauds throughout the Eastern Suburbs and the Sydney CBD.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation following the theft of wallets and other personal items from a university at Kensington between December 2019 and February 2020,

Inquiries revealed, stolen credit cards had subsequently been fraudulently used throughout the Eastern Suburbs and Sydney CBD.

About 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 February 2020), police were called to the campus library after a man was recognised by security; however, the man left prior to officers attending.

About 7.50pm, officers were patrolling the Kensington area when they saw a man riding a bicycle on Anzac Parade.

Following a foot pursuit, a 49-year-old man was arrested in Forsyth Street.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with stealing, obtain benefit by deception x 33, goods in custody x5, and possess prohibited substance.

The man was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Thursday 20 February 2020).
