Police charge man with affray in Strathfield

A man has been charged with affray as investigations continue into a violent assault at Strathfield overnight.

Just before 1am (Friday 15 November 2019), emergency services were called to Albert Street, Strathfield, following reports of a brawl.

Police have been told that two men, aged 24 and 22, left a hotel and got in a vehicle. The vehicle was chased down by a group of males and stopped on Albert Street, where the pair were forcibly removed and assaulted.

It’s alleged the older man was thrown to the ground and repeatedly punched, kicked, and stomped on, while the younger man was forced to the footpath where he was repeatedly punched and kicked in the head before another man became involved.

Both men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for head and facial injuries. The older man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further treatment.

Officers from Burwood Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Two men, aged 26 and 22, were arrested in a nearby street and taken to Burwood Police Station.

The older man was charged with affray and granted bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Monday 2 December 2019.

The younger man was released pending further inquiries.

Inquiries continue to identify further people involved.
