Police yesterday charged a man with high range drink driving after he was detected driving with a blood alcohol reading of .284 in Launceston.
Around 3:48pm yesterday police responded to a report of a black Holden sedan crashing into an unoccupied car parked on Paterson Street outside Kings Bridge.
Police attended and spoke to man driving the black Holden, he was uninjured and belligerent with police and was subsequently arrested at the scene.
The 39-year-old man from Trevallyn underwent a breath analysis at the Launceston Police Station and returned a reading of .284% grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.
Due to the extreme reading given by the man, which was nearly five times over the legal drink driving limit, he was instantly disqualified from driving for a period of 24 months.
The man was charged with refuse name and address, hinder conveyance, exceed 0.05, driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and failing to comply with licence conditions.
He was bailed to appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court in February of 2021
Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed or has dash cam footage of the crash or the man’s driving behaviour prior to incident.
