Police charge teen after man seriously assaulted in Glebe

A teenager will face court today charged over an alleged assault which left a man with serious head injuries in Sydney’s inner west last month.

About 10.45am on Friday 18 September 2020, emergency services were called to the intersection of Bay and Grose Streets, Glebe, following reports a man had been assaulted.

The 60-year-old man was walking north along Bay Street, when he was allegedly bumped before being struck in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with serious head injuries, including a fractured skull. The man underwent surgery and has since been released from hospital.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquires and a public appeal, a 17-year-old male was arrested when he attended Surry Hills Police Station about 8.15am today (Tuesday 6 October 2020).

He was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and refused bail to appear at a children’s court today (Tuesday 6 October 2020).
