Two men have been charged as investigations continue into a home invasion in Sydney’s north-west earlier this year.
About 4.20am on Wednesday 10 March 2021, emergency services were called to a home on Kenthurst Road, Dural, following reports a man had been injured during a home invasion.
Police were told entry was forced into the home, before one of the occupants – a 21-year-old man – was shot in the hand and sustained a laceration to his torso. A second occupant – a 20-year-old man – was uninjured.
The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital.
Local police attended and established a crime scene.
During an extensive search of the surrounding areas, police located two firearms, ammunition, $7800 cash and cannabis. All items were seized for further examination.
Detectives attached to The Hills Police Area Command subsequently commenced investigations into the shooting under Strike Force Sangria.
Following investigations, Strike Force Sangria detectives, with the assistance of Port Macquarie Proactive Crime Team, arrested the 20-year-old resident on Murray Street, Port Macquarie, this morning.
He was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, acquire prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order, not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, possess unauthorised pistol, acquire pistol – subject to firearms prohibition order, not keep firearm safely-pistol and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.
The 21-year-old resident was also arrested at Port Macquarie Police Station, where he was charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, acquire prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order, not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, possess unauthorised pistol, acquire pistol – subject to firearms prohibition order, not keep firearm safely – pistol, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order, and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.
They were both refused bail and will appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Thursday 18 November 2021).
Investigations are continuing with further charges expected.
