Police charge two men over Merrylands stabbing

Two men have been charged following an alleged stabbing at Merrylands last year.

About 2.40pm on Friday 27 October 2023, emergency services were called to a shopping centre on McFarlane Street, Merrylands, following reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command located a 35-year-old man with stab wounds to his torso.

Police were told that the man was sitting in the food court area when he was approached by man who produced a knife and stabbed him before leaving.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released.

Police established a crime scene and detectives commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries and a public appeal, a 19-year-old man was arrested after attending Granville police Station on Wednesday 20 December 2023.

He was charged with accessory after the fact to wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, conceal serious indictable offence and driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 30 January 2024.

A 22-year-old man was arrested after attending Granville police station yesterday (Tuesday 9 January 2024) and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 10 January 2024).
