Police charge woman with child stealing in Bendigo

Bendigo Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives have charged a 31-year-old woman following an incident in Bendigo on Friday.

Investigators arrested the woman after she was located with two children, aged 4 and 10-months, in Pall Mall about 1.30pm.

She was charged with two counts of child stealing and state false name.

It’s alleged the woman forged documents to gain employment as an au pair.

Detectives also charged her with handling stolen goods, after she was allegedly found with a passport and driver’s licence in July which was stolen from a Brighton East woman last year.

The woman, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody to appear in Bendigo Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The girls were returned uninjured to their parents.

The investigation remains ongoing.
