Police confirm four fatalities in Werribee house fire

Arson and Explosives Squad detectives are investigating after four children perished in a house fire in Werribee this morning.

Investigators have been told the fire started in the Mantello Drive property just after 1am.

Four children, two boys aged 3 and 10 years, and two girls aged 1 and 6 years, died in the blaze.

A 45-year-old man, a 38-year-old woman, and an 8-year-old boy were able to escape the fire.

All three were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.

Arson Squad detectives will prepare a report for the Coroner which is normal procedure for any fatal house fire.
