Police Have Lost Confidence In Allan Labor Government

Liberal Party Victoria

Today, Victoria Police are walking off the job in response to the Allan Labor Government failing to negotiate a fair pay deal for frontline officers.

For months Victoria Police members have tried to work in good faith with the government to secure fair pay and conditions for the work they do to keep the community safe.

The Allan Labor Government has instead walked away from negotiations and left members in limbo, who are today stopping work across several stations and the Victoria Police Academy.

Under Labor, there are over 1000 vacancies across police rosters, while crime continues to rise – with aggravated burglaries committed by young offenders alone up nearly 1000 per cent over the last decade.

Shadow Minister for Police, Brad Battin, said: “The Allan Labor Government continues to disrespect Victoria Police and instead of coming to the table to negotiate, they have taken them to the Fair Work Commission in an attempt to force their hand.

“Every day, police officers respond to emergency calls to protect Victorians in their time of need. It is time for Premier Jacinta Allan and Police Minister Anthony Carbines to return to the negotiating table and show some respect, so our police can return to work and keep our communities safe.

“Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage our police force and Victorians are paying the price.”
