Police investigate alleged armed robbery in Port Kembla – Lake Illawarra

An investigation is underway following an alleged armed robbery at a business near Port Kembla today.

About 11am (Thursday 7 September 2023), officers form Lake Illawarra Police District responded to reports of an armed robbery at a business on Weringa Avenue, Lake Heights.

Police have been told that a man allegedly entered the business and threatened a 45-year-old female employee with a pistol, before pushing her to the ground.

The man then allegedly fled the location with an amount of money, and was last seen on Weringa Avenue, travelling towards Jane Avenue.

Officers established crime scenes at the business and a nearby phone box, where the man was allegedly seen earlier in the day.

Both crime scenes were forensically examined by specialist police.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the man around the time and place of the alleged incident.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of medium build and aged in his mid-30s.

The man was wearing blue sunglasses, fingerless gloves, black hat, hi-vis orange jacket, black pants and white shoes.

The employee was uninjured and there were no other persons in the business at the time.
