Police investigate fatal collision at Great Western

Police are investigating a three-vehicle collision in Great Western that has claimed the life of one person.

It is believed a truck carrying multiple vehicles and a ute collided on the Western Highway just after 10pm, a second truck then crashed into the initial collision scene.

The yet to be identified male driver of the ute, and only occupant, has died at the scene.

The male driver of the truck carrying cars is being airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

The male driver of the other truck was not injured and is assisting with enquiries.

The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined at this stage.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area near Churchill Crossing Road as the Western Highway will be closed for some time between Ararat and Stawell.
