Police Investigate Serious Assault At Ipswich

Detectives from the Ipswich District Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 39-year-old Sunnybank Hills man following investigations into an alleged serious assault on Smith Street, Goodna, on March 14.

It will be alleged at approximately 8:20pm, after an verbal altercation, a 65-year-old man was approached and assaulted by a man not known to him, in the carpark of a shopping centre.

The 65-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and was transported to hospital.

The other man left the scene, however following extensive inquiries by investigators over a 24-hour period, he was identified and arrested at a Sunnybank Hills address yesterday, March 15.

The 39-year-old Sunnybank Hills man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.

He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today, March 16.
