Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal three-car collision in Springvale this morning (14 May).
It is understood a car was travelling along Rosalie Street about 7.10am when it collided with a vehicle heading south on Springvale Road.
The car that was struck spun around as a result, colliding head-on with a third vehicle that was also travelling south.
The female driver of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Her male passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the van, a 34-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A 20-year-old man who was driving the first vehicle was taken to hospital for observation and is now assisting police with their enquiries.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.
Road closures are currently in place and expected to be cleared by midday.
