Police investigate train sexual assaults

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives will be handing out flyers and seeking information from the public at several Melbourne train stations this afternoon (November 27) as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

Police are seeking to identify a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries regarding a sexual assault that occurred on board a Hurstbridge-bound train on 28 August about 5.40pm

The man, while standing in close proximity to the female victim, inappropriately touched her.

The female attempted to move away, however the male assaulted her a second time before other passengers intervened.

This occurred between Richmond and Westgarth Train Stations and the man got off the train at Westgarth Railway Station.

This male may also be able to assist with enquiries regarding a sexual assault on board a Lilydale bound train on 4 September about 6pm.

While once again standing in close proximity to the female victim, he inappropriately touched her.

The male utilised a briefcase or laptop bag to conceal his offending for both incidents.

On this occasion the male disembarked at Camberwell Railway Station.

Police will be attending Parliament Railway Station, Westgarth Railway Station and Camberwell Railway Station between 5pm and 6pm to distribute Crime Stoppers Flyers in relation to the two unsolved sexual assaults

Investigators have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
