Police investigations – Deaths – Northern Suburbs

Northern Territory Police are investigating two separate firearm deaths in Millner and Karama late yesterday afternoon.

Around 4:30pm, emergency services received reports of a deceased 63-year-old man at a property in Karama. A firearm was seized at the scene and the circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation and at this stage they are not believed to be suspicious.

Around 6:30pm in a separate incident, police received reports of an injured woman and man at a property in Millner. The 38-year-old woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The 35-year-old-man was declared deceased at the scene and a firearm seized close to his person.

Detectives from Major Crime are investigating both incidents and it is believed both the man and woman in Millner were known to one another.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said “Multiple units deployed quickly to both incidents and the Major Crime Squad will be thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and ultimately preparing a report for the coroner.

“These are two separate incidents and at no stage was there a risk to the wider public.
