Police are pleased to attend numerous Harmony Week events today, celebrating multiculturalism and the successful integration of migrants into our diverse South Australian community.
Today’s many activities coincide with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and observe the 20th annual Harmony Day.
Officers from across South Australia will join with various community groups in support of this year’s theme, ‘Everyone Belongs’.
In Adelaide’s Northern District, officers will meet with the Middle Eastern Women’s Group at Ingle Farm to discuss the role of SA Police and the subject of domestic violence, before attending celebrations at the Kaurna Plains School.
Meanwhile, Crime Prevention Section members from Hills Fleurieu LSA will attend a special assembly at Aldgate Primary School.
Today will see Southern District Police hand out donuts in Harmony Day’s signature orange hue to Darlington Primary School students. Officers will visit the Islamic School at O’Halloran Hill this Friday.
Building on the strong relationships that SA Police has forged with our African community through the world’s game, the SA Shrikes Soccer Club will also host the Harmony Day Soccer Carnival at Angle Park next Sunday, 31 March.
Kicking off with a Women’s game from 2pm at The Parks Recreation Centre, the carnival will see Masters compete at 4pm, before the Men’s Open event at 6pm.
Members from State Community Engagement Section, as well as dignitaries from the African community, will be in attendance to present the trophies to the winning sides.
